I believe that many of the problems we are experiencing as Americans are caused by politicians who have made their careers and fortunes by, with the help of special interests and massive amounts of money, repeatedly getting re-elected to Congress.

It seems that, after the first couple of terms, they become so enamoured with the power and trappings of the office they lose any sense of what is right and good for their constituents and for America, foregoing the ideals they originally came to Washington to fight for in favor of kowtowing to the rich and powerful special interests to ensure their next election victory.

The longer I live and the more I see Congress ignoring the wishes of the American people, as they have done with the bailouts, the stimulus,  the takeover of the banking and auto industries, Cap and Trade and Healthcare Reform, to name a few, the more I am convinced that a Constitutional amendment requiring term limits for these jokers is in order.

There are essentially two ways spelled out in the Constitution for how to propose an amendment. One has never been used. The first method is for a bill to pass both houses of the legislature, by a two-thirds majority in each. Once the bill has passed both houses, it goes on to the states. This is the route taken by all current amendments. It is obvious that no one in Congress has any interest in proposing an amendment that would cost them their cushy career.

The second method prescribed is for a Constitutional Convention to be called by two-thirds of the legislatures of the States, and for that Convention to propose one or more amendments. These amendments are then sent to the states to be approved by three-fourths of the legislatures or conventions. This route has never been taken but I suggest the climate is right among the voters for them to come together and demand their State legislatures call a Constitutional Convention for the purpose of proposing Amendment number XXVIII to limit the tenure and benefits of Members of the United States Congress and Federal judges.

I have drafted proposed wording for this amendment which you can find below.

I suggest we get together with our state Representatives and Senators and start pressing them to move on this ASAP. It only takes the legislatures of 34 of our great States to come together and bring this Convention to being.
